Article:

After The Sex Eduction Bill was passed, a survey amongst 1,700 parents of children between the ages of 5 and 11 was held and the outcome shows that 59% of these parents are against sex education. The reasons for being against sex eduction vary from “it is inappropriate to teach children about sex” to “it should be the parent’s choice to teach their own child.

Athough sex education is not compulsory in English schools, it is in the curriculum. But often people do not know what sex education really is and what is taught at certain ages. Sex education is also not sufficient, due to embarrassment and lack of knowledge of the teachers.

Opinion:

I think sex education in schools is highly important. Children should be taught what sex actually is, what the dangers can be of having sex at an early age and also as is stated in the article, girls should know how to say no against someone who is pressuring them into having sex. Proper sex education might reduce the amount of teenage pregnancies and might make children aware of sexual transmitted diseases, such as AIDS, syphilis and chlamydial disease. But I also think that eventhough sex education in schools is important, parents should also take their responsibility and educate their children about sex.

  1. I am flabbergasted. The country with the highest rate of teenage pregnancies and than this? Obviously they are willing to pay a high price in order to preserve their ignorance. It makes them British I think.

  2. This high rate of teenage pregnancies shows that too many parents aren't doing a very good job in educating their children about sex. I think proper sex education in schools is a must.
