Article:

After the death of Osama Bin Laden, Foreign Secretary Mr William Hague, stated British embassies around the world are put on high security alert. Even though the death of the leader means an enormous blow to al-Qa’ida, it does not mean that terrorism is over and all the problems are solved. In fact, we should be cautious to celebratie his death, because the days following his death might even be more dangerous than the last years have been, because al-Qa’ida and its followers might want to prove to the world that even though Osama Bin Laden is dead, al-Qa’ida is still there.

Opinion:

I believe Mr Hague is absolutely right about being cautious and to put the embassies on higher security alert and about not celebrating the death of terrorist leader Osama Bin Laden just yet. After all, the British are American allies, hence an enemy to al-Qa'ida. And in my opinion al-Qa’ida would love to retaliate and probably will. And what I am even more afraid of, is that Bin Laden’s henchmen might be even more agressive and radical than the man himself. So by killing Bin Laden, an even greater terror might be unleashed. Therefore we should not let our guard down now that Bin Laden is dead, but even put up an even higher security alert, like Mr Hague did, for the Western Civilisation will probably be punished for what we did….

  1. The blow to al-Qaida is a symbolic one. He did not seem to be the actual leader anymore. Nevertheless it is an important symbolic blow. Since 9-11 they haven't done much harm and the recent developments in the Arabic world show that most people want democracy. Al Qaida seem to have lost momentum.
